Joy herself was runner up in the prestigious Gold Medal Series competitions after winning the Gold Medal Final competition and being runner up in the Òran Mòr competition. Mealaibh ur naidheachd to Sineag MacIntyre and Steven MacIver – this year’s very worth winners! She was also placed 3rd in the solo Puirt a Beul competition and managed to run a very successful children’s cèilidh on the Monday night – many thanks to all involved.

Huge congratulations to all the winners and competitors at this year’s Mòd – hope you all enjoyed yourself in Oban and have returned home with a multitude of wonderful memories. Anyone in need of a post Mòd pick-me-up can check out the official photographs and remember- only 51 weeks until Caithness!

Joy has been busy recently promoting all things Mòd related, watch her discuss the Royal National Mòd on STV’s “The Hour” programme with Stephen Jardine and Michelle McManus and also singing and being interviewed for STV’s lunchtime and evening news programmes.

She also managed to find the time to prepare several video diaries of her Mòd preparations which are available to watch now on the official An Comunn Gàidhealach website.

Wee bit of exciting news for you, Joy’s monthly column in “An Gaidheal Ur” has led her to be shortlisted in the “Gaelic Journalist of the Year” category at this year’s Scottish Press Awards. She joins Aonghas Caimbeul (West Highland Free Press), Alasdair H Caimbeul (The Scotsman), Neil O’Gallagher (BBC Alba) and Andreaa Wolff (Scottish Catholic Observer) in this category and wishes them all the best of luck on the night.

I just wanted to let you know that the new album “The Lucky Smile” by Scottish harpist Rachel Hair is now available to buy. I recorded 2 songs for her new album which was previewed at our sell-out gig in the Tron Theatre as part of the Celtic Connections festival.

The official UK retail release isn’t until the 23rd of March but if anyone’s desperate to get a copy you can pick this up from her myspace page or official website. (www.rachelhair.com). I had a great time working with all the musicians on these songs so i hope you enjoy listening to them as much as we did recording them. Keep your ears to the ground about an official launch gig on the 1st of March…details to be confirmed soon.

Welcome everyone to my new website and I hope that you all enjoy your visit! I’m very excited to be finally launching this after lots of hard work, huge thanks to all those involved especially the ever patient Ying and Graham! The site will contain a mixture of info about myself and my current escapades so please have a nosey now and again as I’ll be trying to keep it as up to date as possible.
